Vancouver is home to one of the largest gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgendered (GLBT) populations in Canada. The people of Vancouver are known for their live and let live attitudes and for their relaxed approach to life.
In August each year, Vancouver celebrates Gay Pride with a week of celebrations culminating with the Pride Parade in the West end (the heart of Vancouver’s gay community). In February each year, nearby Whistler/Blackcombe ski resort celebrates Gay Ski Week. These two events, regular celebrations throughout the year, and a stunning setting all combine to make Vancouver a perfect study destination.
The Canadian College of English Language is located in Coal Harbour which is beside Vancouver’s West end. The College is able to accommodate GLBT students in groups or as individuals. The College provides a safe, comfortable environment where all students are treated with respect.
The College can help GLBT students with specific accommodation needs. Gay Homestays, and hotels and Bed and Breakfasts with gay or gay friendly owners can be arranged by the College’s Accommodation Coordinator.
Students needing assistance, or who wish to find out about gay venues, special events, or GLBT resources can visit the CCEL advisor responsible for the GLBT student body.
