Languages Canada is pleased to announce that Renato Medeiros da Fonseca Jr., recipient of the second Languages Canada IsM (Idiomas sim Fronteiras) Scholarship has arrived in Peterborough, Ontario where he will spend a month with Trent-ESL conducting research on their English for Academic purposes program. Renato is an English language instructor at Universidade Federal da Bahia (UFBA) in Brazil. We would like to thank Trent-ESL and Smrt English Ltd. for helping to make this year’s scholarship possible.
Smrt English signed an agreement with the State of Parana in Curitiba, Brazil today whereby the seven state universities will use Smrt English curricula in their English programs. In attendance where the rectors of all seven universities, dignitaries from the State Department and Governors Office, Canadian Embassy Officials, Gonzalo Peralta from Languages Canada and Jim Clark and Paulo Silva from Smrt Idiomas Brazil. A huge step for Smrt English in Brazil. The contracts include the commitment of both sides to work together on joint internationalization programs and closer ties between Canadian and Brazilian students.
The Kul-Kul Connection has doubled their enrolment to 111 students and hired a new teacher. The Smrt English Curriculum is being taught to local children for free in Bali Indonesia. Many graduates that finished year 1 have gone on to pursue a higher education in neighbouring cities.
In 2012 CCEL initiated a scholarship program for students who have lost parents, homes, and livelihoods as a result of the tsunami in Japan. The scholarship was for free tuition (courtesy of CCEL) and free accommodation for up to 3 months.
